The Rectaflex 1300, part of the unique Rectaflex series, holds the distinction of being among the only Italian SLR cameras ever produced. Designed by Telemaco Corsi, the Rectaflex series was introduced in 1948 and continued production until 1958. The Rectaflex 1300, one of the final models, showcases a top shutter speed of 1/1300th of a second, setting it apart from its predecessors.
This model mirrors other 35mm SLR cameras of its era, featuring a cloth focal plane shutter and an interchangeable lens mount. However, its defining feature is the pentaprism housing, an innovative concept at the time, which corrected the image view from left-to-right and flipped it upright. This once novel feature has since become a standard on SLR cameras.
The Rectaflex 1300, due to its rarity and unique features, is highly sought after by collectors. More often than not, these cameras are found in non-functioning condition, adding to their allure as collector's items rather than functional cameras.
